Lakeview- a homey neighborhood that has become my sanctuary. A place bustling with shops, people, and events, but also where you can find peace and serenity with just a few turns down some quiet streets. I’ve been living in Lakeview for just about a year now, and I wanted to share some of my favorite places that I discovered in my neighborhood. Most of them (actually all) are located on Southport Avenue, my new favorite street, where I walk to and from the train every day on my commute to work. The list below is a mix of cafes, brunch spots, shops, and more that I love frequenting during my free time, and that also make Lakeview the warm and welcoming neighborhood that it is.
Amazon Books – a modern twist on the traditional book store, this is probably my favorite place to hang out, read, blog, or just enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend. The store is always buzzing with book lovers of all ages, and I love watching people get lost in a new book they’ve discovered. Although I love my Kindle, there’s something about seeing physical books on shelves that inspires me to pick one up and flip through the pages. The cafe also has good coffee and a really cute outside seating area. They also host a ton of cool events and happenings here.
Southport Grocery and Cafe – Brunch is my absolute favorite mealtime and this cute little spot is truly an underrated gem. The atmosphere and delicious food always has me coming back for more. The small space and limited seating makes it even more unique and intimate, and I love the vibe of this place. Another cool feature about the cafe is that it’s also a little grocery store where you can pick up your favorite and essential goodies.
Lush Cosmetics – BATH BOMBS – enough said. I love stopping by here on my walk home to pick up some bath bombs for a relaxing night after a stressful day at work. Oh and it smells like heaven every time you walk by, so there’s no way to resist coming inside.
Real Good Juice Co. – A very popular place for those obsessed with health and wellness, this place has “real good” organic juices and smoothies. Yeah, they’re also “real pricey,” but “real worth it.” The Southport location is a small one, located right next to Southport Groceries and Cafe, but they also have a nice outside seating area. The place has really good food, too, especially the avocado toast, and noyo froyo- YUM!
Anthropologie – Conveniently located next to some of my other favorite places, I am always drawn inside this beautiful space. Although It’s not usually where I do my shopping, I love coming into this Anthro and browsing their stuff. Particularly, I’m always browsing through the section with books, journals, and more – some serious inspiration! I love their home decor and beauty sections too, and I’ll almost always walk out with a new face mask, candle, or journal. Oops.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream – You probably already know the scoop on Jeni’s ice cream and why it’s so popular, especially with lines out the door all the time. The unique flavors are so delicious and the presentation is so Insta-worthy. It’s the perfect place for dessert if you’re coming from dinner or if you’re just out for a stroll and feel like treating yourself.
This roundup is just a few of my favorite places in the neighborhood’s Southport Corridor. Check them out next time you’re in the neighborhood, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Stay tuned for a roundup of my favorite restaurants in the area, that deserves a blog post of its own, coming soon!
