New Season, New Goals

With the leaves changing color, and Fall officially upon us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the things I want to accomplish in this new season of my life. There is something about Fall that signals the start of something new, maybe it’s that “back to school” feeling in the air that makes my inner nerd giddy and excited to tackle new challenges. Even as a kid, going back to school I always loved fall because it meant new school supplies. Not much has changed, as I still get overly excited when I get new pens or a new planner, even as an adult. Hey, it’s the small things that matter.

On top of enjoying pumpkin flavored everything, wearing cozy sweaters, and burning every fall scented candle I could find, here are some things I plan to work on this season.

  1. Revisit/Establish New Goals – Now is as good a time as any to check in with yourself and where you are with those New Year’s resolutions or other goals you set out to achieve. Have you made progress, or have you completely given up and are waiting for NYE to make those resolutions again? I actually like to view Fall as the start of a new year (again my inner student) and so I plan to establish new goals for myself for this season and this year. It’s also important to recognize how far you’ve come, so relish in all you have accomplished so far and let it be your motivation to keep slaying.
  2. Say “No” More Often – Summer was packed with travel plans, weddings, concerts, endless happy hours, and other social engagements – and as fun as that is, it becomes exhausting pretty quickly. When things start to quiet down a bit in the Fall, enjoy the peace and quiet and treasure the rare moments you get to spend on your own. Make yourself a priority this season, and if it means saying no to another social outing, don’t feel bad about it. The point is to do things based on how you’re feeling, not on what’s required of you. If you feel like celebrating with your friends, go out and have fun, but if you feel like you need a break, by all means stay home, take a bath, read a book, and do whatever YOU want to do.
  3. Get organized – I firmly believe that when my life feels like a mess, it’s (at least partly) because my surroundings are disorganized. Organizing makes me feel like I have control over my surroundings and I am much happier and more productive in a clean, organized space. I love decluttering everything – my clothes, makeup, skincare products, books, kitchen cabinets, my work desk, and anything I can get my hands on. The start of a new season is also a perfect excuse to organize your closet and change out your seasonal clothes. I recently purged through my closet, resulting in bags on bags of clothes to donate, and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. And as a bonus – all the extra space in my closet can now be used for all the fall sweaters I’m about to splurge on.
  4. Figure Out my Life – haha JK that’s not happening any time soon.
