Self Love

We all know Valentine’s Day is about showing our loved ones just how special they are and how much we love them. Although it feels great to shower others with love, it also becomes easy to forget a very important type of love – self love. Valentine’s Day is all about love, and I think it’s absolutely necessary to first and foremost show some love for yourself. Love comes from within, and it will be genuine towards others only if you have it for yourself. Whether you’re excited for Valentine’s Day or consider it just another “Hallmark” holiday, there’s no denying that love should be celebrated – on this day, and every day. Whatever your plans are for Valentine’s Day weekend, make sure to appreciate and show yourself some love with these ideas:  

Practice Self-Care

Sometimes, all the love you need can be found in the comfort of your own home. Spend some time doing what YOU want and need, without worrying what others might think. I know it may “look bad” to decline an invitation to another social outing (maybe a Galentines’ night out), but if you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the plans, you shouldn’t feel obligated to accept. Have a spa day, watch a movie, cook a nice meal, or read a book – anything that will be good for your body and soul. You will feel so much happier when you do things for yourself, and in turn you will have more energy to do things for and with the people you love. You should still absolutely celebrate with your significant other and/or loved ones, just also make it a priority to have time for yourself.

Treat Yourself

Practice self-love by treating yourself to something you’ve been wanting but holding back on. Maybe it’s something you just couldn’t justify buying, or your favorite meal from a fancy restaurant, or maybe even a mani/pedi or a blowout to pamper yourself – now is the perfect time to indulge and feel good about it. Think about it, you’re constantly doing nice things for your loved ones’ birthdays and other holidays, like buying presents, taking them out to dinners, etc. Why not treat yourself to these same acts of love? These small actions could make a huge difference in how you feel and feeling good about yourself will always be worth the cost.


We could all use a little reminder every now and then, that “yes, we’re doing alright.” No matter where you are in your professional, personal, or spiritual journey, remember that you are exactly where you need to be at this point in time. Reflect on all the things you’re doing right, and remember that it’s enough. Everyone has to overcome certain obstacles to be where they are today. Reflect on that and appreciate yourself for making it through the hard times. Of course it sounds corny, but learn from the past, look forward to the future, and most importantly focus on the present. You deserve all the love that is around you today, and always.
